Earth Day is coming up and there are lots of small ways you can make an impact to help protect the Earth and its inhabitants, the easiest and cheapest of which is to reduce your consumption of resources like water and plastics. If you want to make a bigger impact, here are three local options to help you celebrate Earth Day all year round in Denver.
1. Denver Compost Program
We're lucky to live in a city that cares enough to offer a full service composting program that makes it easy and affordable to turn things like yard waste, food scraps, and even cardboard into compost. This weekly service is now available to all Denver residents and it can save an estimated 50-75% that would have gone to waste. We'd love to see all the Denver neighborhoods meeting or surpassing this mark! Talk to your neighbors and friends about your success with the program, how easy and affordable it is, and how much better it is for the environment.
2. Bee Friendly
Bees are important for the health andbiodiversity of local flowers and plants, but sadlytheir numbers are declining worldwide. You can attract these busy pollinators by planting their favorite flowers that bloom at different times throughout the year.Denver bees love sunflowers, Russian Sage, Jupiter's Beard, and Goldenrod, among others. Make sure to go chemical free in your yard (no Roundup) to providea safe habitat forthe bees, which will also be beneficial for your pets.Anotherway to help is to install a bee hotelin your yard. You can even takeurban beekeeperclasses through the Colorado Beekeppers Association or the Butterfly Pavillion.
3.Rooted Future
The devastation of forests and ecosystems left in the wake of the 2020 wildfires in Colorado will haunt the landscape for years to come. Over 625,000 acres of our beautiful state were destroyed and will take many generations to regrow to what it once was. 4. Participate in One of Our Earth Day Cleanup Events

5. The Happy Beetle
The Happy Beetle is a Denver based company dedicated to the environment with an aim to keep as much waste as possible out of the landfill and back in circulation. They offer regular pick-ups of hard to recycle items like bike tubes and amazon packaging for a low monthly subscription, with seasonal pickups for less common items, then work with their partners to ensure that each item is œput to its highest and best use. Their first goal is to reuse the item in its original form. If that can't be accomplished they then try to reimagine a secondary use for it before recycling, or as a last resort they will responsibly dispose of the item.
