Although not an official holiday, we're pretty darn excited to celebrate our home state on Colorado Day each year! We're especially grateful this year, because while stay-at-home orders kept us from enjoying all of our beautiful state the way we're used to, Colorado still provided a gorgeous backdrop for quarantine and we wouldn't have wanted to be stuck anywhere else!
How to Celebrate in 2020
Celebrations in 2020 look a little different than we're used to, but you can still enjoy the great outdoors while remaining considerate of others. For Colorado's 144th birthday, Colorado Parks and Wildlife is continuing the tradition of gifting residents free entry to all of its 41 state parks. For Veterans, the offer is extended to a full month of free entry at our gorgeous and diverse parks! Make sure to bring your face mask with you for passing others on the trails, maintain six feet of distance when possible, and as always respect our great state by adhering to leave-no-trace principles.
Celebrating Colorado Day in Denver
History Colorado is still offering free museum admission this year, but it has traded the usual Colorado Day festivities for a full week of free online programming including videos, games, downloadable activities and a self-guided driving tour.
Here are some other ways to celebrate and enjoy the day brought to you by our gorgeous state...
- Take a hike in the foothills or open space
- Stroll around one of Denver's city parks
- Go for a bike ride
- Plan a family picnic
- Go stand up paddleboarding
- Plan a Colorado themed scavenger hunt for kids and neighbors
- Discover a great place to enjoy the sunset

Any outdoor activity in the Colorado sunshine is a great way to celebrate our majestic state. Happy 144th Birthday Colorado!
