Make Your Move Eco Friendly

Make your move eco friendly

With earth day coming up and the real estate market bounding into its busy season, you may be considering how to combine the two and make your move eco friendly! All the cardboard boxes, bubble wrap, and toxic fumes can add up but there are some easy ways to minimize your moving footprint.

  1. Pack Your Bags

eco friendly packing

Instead of using disposable cardboard boxes, search your home for box-like receptacles and use those for your big move instead! Storage bins, duffle bags, rolling suitcases, large tupperware and keepsake boxes are just a few examples of the hidden gems just waiting to make their debut as moving boxes.

  1. Hunt for Boxes

Green packing

Are all of your containers and tubs already full and ready for moving day? Look outside your home for unwanted cardboard boxes to fill the gap. Reusing packing boxes is one of the most popular ways to make your move eco friendly and to save some cash. But, don't give up if that email blast to your family and friends asking for unwanted boxes goes unanswered. Instead, stop by your local liquor store and ask for empty boxes. The liquor store will likely thank you for taking the pile of empty cardboard off their hands - and you can pick up a bottle or two of your favorite beverage while you're at it! Two boxes, one stone.

  1. Give Your Breakables the Five Star Treatment

Skip the bubble wrap and packing paper and put all those cozy blankets and soft linens to use. And, you can rest assured that your breakables are safe in the finest your home has to offer.

  1. Stir Up Your Own Cleaning Solution

Avoid using earth and human harming chemicals by concocting your own cleaning solution. Mix water, baking soda, and lavender essential oil in a spray bottle and you're Mrs. or Mr. Clean - the one who's friends with Mother Earth. Discover more eco-friendly cleaner recipes here.

  1. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!
