Adding curb appeal to your standard 50's ranch in Denver

Unfortunately, the same can't often be said of the standard 50's ranch in Denver. However, I would say a good majority of the buyers that start out looking for the sexy home, end up buying a 50's ranch because it offers so much more space and a more usuable floor plan. When we get to this point I try to offer my buyers the option of a 50's ranch and give ideas on how to improve the curb appeal to achieve the sexy look that everyone is looking for.

I was looking online the other day and found this great post on Houzz.com. They took your standard 50's ranch and transformed it into an incredible craftsman bungalow. While the exterior transformation of this home with the addition is easily a $150,000 plus transformation and isn't realistic for most people, it does give some great ideas of how to transform practical ranches to sexy ranches.

Here is the before picture. While we don't see many ranches in Denver with an underground garage, we do see many with this layout up top.

And here is the after picture. Quite the difference, huh? While the addition completely changed the look of the home, pay attention to the smaller details that improved the home so much. The new paint, the new shutters, new colored roof and especially the covered patio are all items that significantly improve the curb appeal of this home and are items that could be applied to all 50's era ranches.
