Diary of my Berkeley kitchen remodel: Step 3, plumbing, electrical, floors and cabinets.

We have now been living with the remodel for 5 weeks and believe me, are ready for it to be done. Unfortunately it looks like we won't be finished until early December now and not back upstairs in time for Thanksgiving which was our original goal. If things had gone as planned, the electricians would have come first, followed by the plumber, the hardwood floor company, the drywallers and finally the cabinets. As you can imagine, it has not gone as planned and the moral of this blog is that while a contractor will try to keep everything on schedule, expect things to not go as planned and that you are going to have to be very flexible along the way.

As of today, this is how our kitchen looks which is a huge improvement over a week ago. The cabinets have been set, most of the drywall and plumbing is done and now we are waiting on the electrician to finish, the hardwood floors to be refinished, painting and granite to come in before the finish work can take place. I am learning that all these items rely on the other, especially the electrician and if they hold things up, you can be in trouble.

This weeks schedule, which of course is tentative, includes the hardwood floor company coming tomorrow to sand all the floors. Here is a patch they did last week so should be all set for tomorrow we hope. The electrician will come Wednesday, they still have a ton of work as you can see below, and then the hardwood floors get their first coat on Thursday and Friday. After that the drywall can be finished with paiting early next week and granite next Wednesday. Keeping our fingers crossed.

Waiting on a new service panel that was supposed to have gone in 2 weeks ago
