Is LODO a good place to live? According to a study out by the American Planning Association, LODO or Lower Downtown Denver, is one of the 10 best neighborhoods in the country for 2010. This is a unique honor for the heart of Downtown Denver that isn't always associated as a true "neighborhood" in the traditional sense. Perhaps it is time to adjust our thinking of what defines a neighborhood and look at all that LODO has to offer.
To define a great neighborhood, APA looks at the following requirements.
- Has a variety of functional attributes that contribute to a resident's day-to-day living (i.e. residential, commercial, or mixed-uses).
- Accommodates multi-modal transportation (i.e. pedestrians, bicyclists, drivers).
- Has design and architectural features that are visually interesting.
- Encourages human contact and social activities.
- Promotes community involvement and maintains a secure environment.
- Promotes sustainability and responds to climatic demands.
- Has a memorable character.
After looking at these criteria, certainly something we all look for in a neighborhood, we realize why LODO was selected. For the full study and to see the highlights of whyLODO was selected, click here.
