Open-Air Art in Denver
National Velvet
2415 16th St

Are they giant red jelly beans? Or maybe a stack of sausages? They could even be something more morose. Denver artist, John McEnroe, says it's none of the above. National Velvet is just art, inspired by the sculpture's unique nylon medium. But as with all creative works, the meaning is best defined by each viewer, adding to the complexity of Denver's art anthology.
Blue Mustang (Bluecifer)
Visible from Pena Blvd. as you enter or exit DIA

This 32-foot-tall "Blue Mustang" sculpture, known colloquially as Bluecifer, is the stuff of urban legend. Except, the stories are true. While making the installation, artist Luis Jimnez was crushed to death. The horse's ominous glowing red eyes gaze enigmatically at passersby. The sculpture is a haunting reminder of the artist's untimely demise and a symbol of local art, tragedy, and urban mythology (or, urban history, as the case may be).
Dancers
1185-1245 Champa St, Denver, CO 80204

Nestled in the Denver Theatre District, the "Dancers" sculpture depicts two larger-than-life dancers frozen in a graceful pose. Created by artist Jonathan Borofsky, this dynamic sculpture captures the spirit of movement and performance.
Big Sweep
100 W 14th Ave Pkwy

Situated outside the Denver Art Museum, the "Big Sweep" sculpture features a whimsical oversized broom and dustpan. Created by artists Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen, this playful installation adds a touch of humor to the museum's surroundings.
I See What You Mean (Big Blue Bear)
750-776 14th St

Located outside the Colorado Convention Center, the "I See What You Mean" sculpture, affectionately known as the Blue Bear, stands at 40 feet tall and peers curiously into the convention center's glass facade. Created by artist Lawrence Argent, this iconic blue bear has become a beloved symbol of Denver.
Sun Spot
Visible from I-25, between 6th & Alameda

Made from more than 90,000 individual stainless steel pet tags, "Sun Spot" is a captivating kinetic sculpture that reflects and refracts sunlight, casting intricate patterns of light and shadow across the park's landscape. This mesmerizing artwork invites viewers to contemplate the beauty of natural light and motion.
Denver Digerati
Several locations in the heart of Denver

As part of the Denver Digerati program, several LED screens throughout Downtown Denver showcase digital art and animation by local and international artists. These vibrant and dynamic displays transform urban spaces into immersive art galleries, offering viewers a unique and interactive experience with digital media.
Snowmastodon
2001 Colorado Blvd

Located outside the Denver Museum of Nature & Science, the "Snowmastodon" sculpture is a striking representation of the prehistoric mastodon discovered in a nearby Snowmass Village excavation site. This larger-than-life sculpture (though only slightly larger than the real-deal pachyderm of late), created by artist Gary Staab, captures the majesty and intrigue of the ancient creature, serving as a captivating outdoor attraction for museum visitors.
