Girls Inc of Metro Denver Serving Up Strong, Smart & Bold Young Women and Now Coffee!

Live Urban is proud to support Girls Inc. of Metro Denver which offers programs that prepare girls to succeed in a world where women still encounter social and cultural barriers to success.Founded in 1983 by a group of Denver community members concerned about the rising number of girls becoming teen mothers, dropping out of school prior to high school graduation, and entering youth corrections facilities. GIMD is an affiliate of the national Girls Incorporated organization, an established and recognized authority on girls' issues with a history dating back to 1864, and is the only Girls Incorporated affiliate located in Colorado. GIMD's mission is to inspire all girls to be strong, smart, and bold. GIMD implements comprehensive, gender-specific programs, allowing us to address specific needs and risks, build from girls' inherent strengths, and provide broad and relevant exposure opportunities. Strong, Smart & Bold Beans will provide GIMD the opportunity to expand its entrepreneurial program and provide teen girls with hands-on learning opportunities and paid jobs.

Strong, Smart & Bold Beans (Bold Beans), a social enterprise ofGirls Inc. of Metro Denver (GIMD), opens at their new coffee shop location of STEAM on the Plattethis week, with a Grand Opening planned for Thursday, 11/16, 5p-7p. Bold Beans will do the following:

Bold Beans will be open Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm, serving coffee and espresso drinks, breakfast and lunch items, baked goods, snacks and bottled beverages. Coffee-related products and gifts will also be available for purchase.

We are thrilled to open the new and expanded Bold Beans location at STEAM on Platte and continue to expose teen girls to real-world business development concepts. said Sonya Ulibarri, GIMD President & CEO. By investing in a social enterprise model, Girls Inc. is able to provide girls with innovative programs and leadership opportunities, while also generating revenue and awareness of Girls Inc.'s mission and impact.

Bold Beans provides GIMD with an earned revenue stream and platform to deliver economic literacy and entrepreneurship curriculum to middle school and high school girls. Since its inception, girls have played a central role in the launch and development of the business. Early on girls developed the business idea, contributed to the business plan, led a pilot program, and raised start-up funds. Today, these girls are Bold Baristas who have leadership roles in product development, marketing/public relations, and community engagement.

For many of the girls involved, Bold Beans is their first paid job. Halla, a Bold Barista and high school junior, remarked: Working at Bold Beans has let me discover myself as a worker. I've been able to make mistakes and learn from them while still having a great support system and great people to go through it with.ill
