Why Live Loves LLS

Live Urban's Assistant Managing Broker, Paul Kourkoulis, brought The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to the Denver Real Estate Company's attention as an option for a Live and Give partner because of the cutting edge research being done using T-Cells to remediate blood cancers. Paul has a big heart and a former client - and current friend - who is a childhood cancer survivor. She invited Paul to LLS's Light the Night event and Paul was touched beyond belief, œTo see the little kids hold up their survivor lanterns is amazing. Event-goers are provided with lanterns color coded to their involvement: one color for financial donors, one for survivors, and one for those remembering loved ones who have passed. The result is a glittering night sky and new funds for blood cancer research.

After doing some research on LLS, Paul saw the promise in this ingenious new technology and the impact it could have on the world. Since Live Urban selected The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society as a Live and Give recipient in February, further clinical trials have continued to demonstrate the promising outcomes of this new treatment.

How The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Makes a Difference

Blood cancers are expected to kill about 58,300 people in 2017 in the United State alone. This staggering number is a heartbreaking statistic that can only be altered through extensive treatment research. Adoptive Cell Transfer has captured international attention for it's ability to fight blood cancers using visionary science and has only become possible because of funding from organizations like LLS.

According to the National Cancer Institute, the most successful form of Adoptive Cell Transfer is CAR T-Cell Therapy - coined as œThe Living Drug. The driving forces of the human immune system, T-Cells, attack infected cells and those ridden with pathogens naturally. By isolating and genetically engineering a patient's T-Cells to produce surface antigen receptors (that don't occur naturally), then reintroducing those super-cells to the patient, cancer cells are targeted by this army of engineered cells. Once reintroduced to the patient, the super-cells duplicate, enhancing the attack on cancer cells.

Trials using this treatment show promising results, but further research, approval, and funding are required for widespread use.

How You Can Help

CAR T-Cell Therapy and other life saving treatments live and grow through donations and foundation funding. You can donate to Colorado's own Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in order to support further research and make a difference in the lives of those suffering from blood cancers.
