Let Sparks Fly - But be Aware of Colorado's Fireworks Laws!

The Fourth of July can be a confusing time as a Coloradan on what you can and cannot buy when it comes to fireworks because the laws are different depending on where you live.

All the recent rainfall Colorado has seen this spring does not change the rules when it comes to fireworks!

Some examples of illegal fireworks are:

  • Firecrackers
  • Cherry bombs
  • Bottle rockets
  • M-80s
  • Roman candles

In some cases, the local law is stricter than the state law. Here are a few examples of fireworks laws in different jurisdictions:

  • Adams County - all fireworks are illegal
  • Arvada - all fireworks are illegal
  • Aurora - all fireworks are illegal
  • Denver - all fireworks are illegal
  • Fort Collins - all fireworks are illegal
  • Fountain - ground spinners, glowworms and sparklers are allowed
  • Jefferson County - all fireworks are illegal
  • Lakewood - all fireworks are illegal
  • Larimer County - all fireworks are illegal

A good rule of thumb is to call your local fire department to see if they are illegal in your area.
