It has been a very busy month since my last blog post and seems like so much has been done that I don't know where to start. It is almost livable at this point and it's starting to drive us crazy that we are so close but cant move in yet. Our original completion date was set for the beginning of September. We had some hold ups along the way with items back ordered so I'm guessing it will be finished closer to the end of September.
After the drywall was in, thing moved along quickly. The hardwoods went in followed by tile. Once everything was near complete, the hardwoods were sanded and had three finish coats applied. I will warn you that even if they say dustless finishing, dust will cover every inch of your house once they sand the floors.
With all the tile in the bathroom, our tile guy was busy for almost a full week. And I was busy picking up tile for a full week too. I've never hauled so much tile in my life but luckly I had a good little helper. We found most of our tile at Floor and Decor, World of Tile and Home Depot. Definitely check Floor and Decor and World of Tile before heading to some of the bigger places because their prices were about half for the same product.
With flooring in, cabinets could then be set. We are still waiting on the cabinets to be finished, but was nice to see it all come together. After cabinets were set, the counter guys came in and installed the marble counters in no time at all. The plumber finished installing all faucets today and my wife is chomping at the bit to take a bath in her new tub.
While a they were busy inside, they have been just as busy outside. The siding has been finished, we have a backyard again and just in time for all this rain so hopefully the sod will take without me having to waste too much water which I hate.
I'm hopeful that in a couple of weeks I'll be writing a post about the finished product. At this point, the carpenter just needs to put the final touches on the cabinets, the shower door needs to be installed, the back slab by the garage needs to be poured and a new fence put up. And...... the new hardwoods don't match the old ones so may have a big problem there. But, the end is in sight and with luck we will move into our new bedroom this weekend and will be working from my new office next week. Maybe wishful thinking, but you never know.
