Denver. Learn to compost for free.

Have you ever thought of composting and the benefits it would have for you garden? If so, but have no idea where to start, you are in luck. Denver Urban Gardens in conjuction with Denver Recycles, will be offering free classes on composting now through the end of October. Each class is hosted at the Gove Community Garden at 13th and Colorado and will last two hours.

If you want to compost, but don't want to deal with it in your backyard, then you could also consider Denver's Compost Collection Program. For a small charge, you will receive a bin you can throw your compost materials in for collection each week. You don't receive the finished product back, but you will get the satisfaction of knowing you are signficantly reducing the amount of waste you send to a landfill each year. Over 50% of all trash in Denver could be composted.

For those interested in the composting class, each compost class is a two-hour, hands-on workshop in the basics of backyard composting. Worm Workshops are special classes that cover vermicomposting techniques. Build-A-Pile Workshops are special classes in which participants help to build an entire compost pile, and receive hands-on experience in incorporating different materials into a compost pile, chopping ingredients, watering, and turning the pile.

All workshops will be open for registration one month before each class date.
