If you haven't heard, Denver Water has issued Stage 2 drought conditions this summer meaning you can only water your lawn twice a week and on a set schedule. To get the most out of the water you are allowed to use on your lawn, here are some tips to help keep the grass green and do your part to save water.
Denver water suggests changing out older sprinkler heads for higher efficiency rotary nozzles and they will even give you a rebate if you do so. Another tip they are pushing strongly is the cycle and soak method of watering. This involves running the sprinklers for 3 cycles a day, for five minutes each. This allows the water to travel deeper in the hard clay soil to get to the roots and is much more efficient than letting it run for the allotted 15 minutes straight.
And if you are tired of wasting water and time keeping your grass green, then consider xeriscaping part or all of your yard. Denver Water offers plenty of suggestions on how the process works along with live demonstrations around town of yards that have been xeriscaped successfully.
