The Best Brunch in Northwest Denver

If you subscribe to 5280 Magazine, then you know the list of places to dine in Denver is endless. I get anxiety just thinking about all of the new restaurants out there I've yet to try. Recently, a friend told me about Sassafras in Northwest Denver, and I can't stop coming back, so thought it was time to share this jewel with everyone else.

I'm shocked every time I visit this adorable restaurant in the Jefferson Park neighborhood. Why? There's no wait! I stopped going to Snooze on the weekends long ago for this very reason. I'm hesitant to let others know about Sassafras because I'm afraid the days of no waiting will soon be over, but it's too good to keep a secret. The restaurant is in an old Victorian house and when you walk in you feel like you're at your old Aunt Sally's country house for breakfast. A chalkboard behind the counter highlights the specials and items that can be ordered for take-out. Homemade jams and sauces are available for purchase on your way out.

The dining room and front counter exude Southern Comfort

The menu at Sassafras, which is open daily for breakfast and lunch, ranges from traditional southern Cajun specialties like Red Beans and Rice, which my brother-in-law from New Orleans said is the real thing, to brunch-at-its-best dishes like Fried Green Tomato Benedict and Biscuits and Gravy. The lunch menu also includes burgers, gumbo and other hearty dishes perfect for Colorado's fall and winter mornings. Do you get a cravings for fried pickles, Frito pie, sweet gooey baked goods like monkey bread? You will not be disappointed.

Don't miss the homemade biscuits

Don't miss this place - you'll love the comforting atmosphere, the great coffee, and the amazing food. And did I mention the staff is super friendly? Sorry Aunt Sally, I'll be at Sassafras next weekend.
