Imagine hopping on your bike, meeting up with a few hundred friends and pedaling down Colfax on a warm summer night. This really happens every Wednesday night in downtown Denver, as happy bikers ride through the streets and then converge at Civic Center Park for a œCircle of Death ride, live music and food truck snacks. I have been participating in the zany themed Denver Cruisers rides for a quite some time, and have watched it grow every year to now include hundreds of bikers each week. Last week the theme was bubble wrap, duct tape and cardboard...yes, creativity abounds! Best people watching anywhere in town! This phenomenon is not limited to downtown dwellers, cruiser rides can be found in towns up and down the front range. Boulder's Happy Thursday ride is also a blast as it takes you through downtown Boulder and then out on the bike paths around town. Residents are always out on their porches waiting for ringing bike bells and shouts of œHappy Thursday to brighten their evenings. It's a parade that happens every week!
Other towns such as Arvada, Salida, Colorado Springs and Louisville have also gotten in the act. Communities are finding this is a great way to bring neighbors together for a fun activity that anyone can participate in, while enjoying their town from a bicycle seat. So, dust off that Schwinn and head on out one evening this summer to experience your city in a new fun way!
