In the spring of 2011, longing for a fundraiser that was actually fun, agroup of parents organized a one-of-a-kind, ˜80s-themed event on TennysonStreet called Totally Tennyson, which benefitedeight elementary schools in Northwest Denver. This eventwas a pub-crawl that went œback to the future, and ticket holders were allabout break dancing, glam rock, jazzercise, and neon fishnet stockings. The˜80s never saw a better party! Totally Tennyson 2011 had over 1,000 attendeesand was able to raise over $21,000 for those eight schools. TennysonStreet had never seen so many mullets, Swatches, orleg warmersa DeLorean was even on the scene.
Totally Tennyson will be rocking the Tennyson Street Merchant Corridorbetween W. 38th Avenue and W.46th Avenue on Saturday, April 28, 4p.m. to 10 p.m. It is a 21-and-over event. There will be hubs ofactivity all along the street where Crocket and Tubbs can enjoy food, drink,and music supplied by the generous Tennyson Streetbusinesses while rubbing elbows with Richard Simmons and Madonna. The eventwill end up at the Oriental Theater with a free concert put on by a nationallytouring Cure cover band called The Cured. The band performs a true-to-era 1989Cure concert, complete with costumes, lights, effects, and of course, thesongs. In addition to benefiting participating Northwest Denver schools (AcademiaAna Maria Sandoval Brown Bryant-Webster Centennial Cheltenham Colfax Edison Escuela Tlatelolco North High Skinner Middle Trevista atHorace Mann Valdez), this event also will give Tennyson Streetmerchants and event sponsors a chance to highlight their businesses and marketto new customers.
