What are the plans for the Denver International Airport expansion?

If you have been to DIA lately, thenyou've surely noticed the gigantic hole being dug to the south of the mainterminal. It got me wondering what the plans are for the Denver InternationalAirport expansion and what I found is pretty impressive.

Denverinfill.comhas a great write up on the plans for the expansion. According to theirwebsite, the $500 million expansion incorporates three major elements:

A new Public Transit Center that willaccommodate the end-of-line station for RTD'sEast Linea23-mile rail transit connection between DIA and Union Station in DowntownDenvercurrently under construction and scheduled to open for service inJanuary 2016.

A new 500-room Westin Hotel & ConferenceCenter that will be located immediately south of the existing Jeppeson Terminaland above the Public Transit Center.

Anew 60,000 square foot Public Plaza that will connect the Jeppesen terminalwith the new hotel.
