What is the plan for the Denver Union Station redevelopment?

There sure is a lot of work going on around Union Station inDowntown Denver, what is the plan for it? If you have driven by the arearecently, you certainly must have seen some gigantic piles of dirt, lots ofcranes in action and construction vehicles buzzing around everywhere. Bigchanges are in store and when it is done, Downtown Denver will forever bechanged for the better.

The historic Union Station building will remain and the cityis looking for input from all of us as to what they would like to see in thefuture. It looks like it will eventually contain a boutique hotel, restaurantsand shopping.

The area to the west of Union Station that has been railyards for so long is what gets me excited. The Commuter Rail Train Hall will bejust to the west of Union Station and will include 8 tracks including the lineto the airport. This will be able to handle up to 10,000 travelers per hour.

The regional bus facility will be below grade including 22 bays. The 16th Street mall shuttle will extend to here connecting CivicCenter to the Platte River. And building on the success of the 16thSt Mall Shuttle, a Downtown Circulator will be added connecting the UnionStation to employment centers in mid-town and continuing to Civic Center on 18th/19thStreets and Lincoln and Broadway.

Even though this is years away from being completed, I amalready getting calls from out of state buyers who want to purchase a condo orloft walking distance to Union Station so they can take the light rail shuttlefrom the airport and walk to their unit without ever needing a car. If you arelooking for the next hot spot in Denver, hint, hint, you might want to lookhere. For more detailed information about this exciting development, click here.
