
With the advent of Denver's fabulous fall weather, and snow in the forecast, take advantage of the time to get your garden organized. Avid gardeners know that fall is the best time for planting, dividing and cleaning while enjoying the perfect Colorado light!
- Divide crowed perennials, bulbs and grasses.
- Dig up tuberous tender bulbs and bulbs.
- Plant spring blooming bulbs.
- Pull spent summer annuals and plant fall color - winter pansies, kale and fall blooming perennials.
- Plant shrubs and conifers with fall color and winter edible interest.
- Prune appropriate trees and shrubs. Clean dead debris while leaving winter interest.
- Rake leaves and grass clippings around plants for natural mulch.
- Pull annuals and herbs inside a sunny window.
- Over-seed lawn bare spots.
- Get weeds now before they go to seed.
- Harvest fruits and vegetables.
- Bring in houseplants that were basking outside.
- Clean out all plant material and soil in pots. Turn the planters over and cover with a burlap or tarp.
- Clean fountains and birdbath and protect for winter.
- Reduce water for lawn sprinklers and established trees and shrubs.
- By end October, turn off water for the season and blow out sprinkler system.
