So what is going on with all the street construction on Tennyson Street? If you have driven through there recently, it kind of resembles a war zone. While it might keep some away right now, once the construction is over, people are sure to be flocking. And with an expected completion date of November, it can't come quick enough.
Right now, a $2.5 million dollar Streetscape is taking place on Tennyson Street from 38th to 46th in the Berkeley District. By the end of the year, a new and transformed Tennyson St will greet you when you head out for a meal, to do a little shopping or take in some galleries. The sidewalks will all be new and wider. There will be lots more spots for safely crossing the road. Art will be displayed up and down the street and new trees will provide shade and ambiance as you are out strolling.
And the largest change will be found at Cesar Chavez Park. This park is going to see a complete makeover and the plans look amazing!
So while we are all waiting for the project to be completed, let's not forget about the businesses currently on the street who need our support through the construction. With walking traffic way down, most businesses sales are down 30-60% and a few of our favorites have already closed their doors. The next time you are going out to eat, do some shopping or buy some art, please consider heading out to Tennyson street first.
