What are the best options for moving in Denver?

What are the best options for moving in Denver? Moving. I would predict 99% of the world's population hates this word. The end result is usually worth it, but the actual moving process can be beyond painful. So here in Denver, what are the best options?

Movers - If you don't want to mess with any of it, then hiring a moving company is definitely the way to go. With this route, you don't have to lift a thing, just boss people around all day. Many movers will even help pack your house and unpack if you just can't stomach the thought of doing it on your own. Of course, this optioncan come with a steep price tag.

Most moving companies charge by the hour and by how many movers they have on site. There is also a trip charge and a few other chargesthey manage to slip in. On a recent move, I paid $1,000 for three guys to move my three bedroom house I had been in for 5 years. It took eight hours which was about five more than the company quoted me. While I wasn't crazy about the bill, I realized I could never have done it on my own in the limited time I had available. Most of my furniture and boxes made it intact and overall, I was pleased with the experience. Would I use movers again? It all depends on the time available, how many friends I could recruit and what the tab would really be, not what I was quoted.

PODS -We have all seen the POD containers around town, and their competitors as well. The POD system can be used for a variety of different moves. Some will use them to get clutter out of the house if they are trying to sell, and others will pack everything they have in the POD over a few days, and then have the company deliver the container to their new home. The advantage here is that you rent the containers by the month, so you can do it piece by piece and not feel so rushed to have everything done in a day.

Since I will be moving again soon, call me crazy, I got a quote for a POD container to see if it would make the process easier and less expensive. The quote I got back kind of surprised me, I was expecting it to be a little more affordable. To rent a 16 foot container which is their largest and most popular size, to have it delivered to your home and then delivered again to a new location, the total would be $361 for a month. Each additional month would be $100. Again, this is a great way to go if you plan to load the container over a period of time and don't want to have to do it all in one day.

UHAUL - If you want to get your hands dirty, recruit some friends with beer and pizza, then a UHAUL type truck or trailer is the way to go. According to the UHAUL website, to rent a 17 foot truck for the day would run you around $75 plus $.79 a mile. If you are moving a short distance and have strong friends, then this is definitely the affordable way to go.

It is going to be tough to find a way to make moving fun. The question comes down to how much you are willing to do yourself and how much you are willing to pay to have someone else do it for you. Just keep in mind, the end result is worth the effort and eventually it will all be done. And if you have other tips or ideas for moving in Denver, would love to hear them.
