Letting Go of the Home You Love

Its a typical scenario that many of my clients express the sadness that is experienced when they move away from a home they love. Whether it be to upsize or downsize or relocate, we create deep, and often emotional bonds with the places in which we live. We get caught up in the heavy lifting and the frenzy of packing, and before we know it, moving day comes. As we pull away from our beloved home, we are often hit by a deep sense of sadness œso, is that it?? All of those memories, and we don't get a chance to say goodbye to our homes that have hosted us for years, and been the receptacle for so much love and laughter and treasured moments shared with family and friends.

And when we look back to see our home in the rearview mirror, it's too late.

That is why I often recommend that my clients consider a home blessing ceremony before they go, to honor all that their home provided them through the years. It brings a sense of completeness and closure, and energetically balances the home. It allows for a wonderful way to say goodbye with a heart full of gratitude, and also clears the space for the family to come ~ a beautiful gesture to the new owners.

I recently listed a sweet home in Wash Park for a friend of mine. As our closing date drew near, she decided to embrace the blessing ceremony to cleanse her energy from her home; essentially to œtake her with her. She had experienced some significant life changes and abundant opportunities while she lived in this home, and wanted to honor all of those memories and leave her space in a state of gratitude for all that it provided. We began a traditional and magical space clearing which I studied in Bali, by settling in on the floor, with our tools and offerings set before us. A couple of deep breaths to center and we began! We started with simple gestures to connect with her home, then use a technique to break up the existing energy patterns, and then used sound to first enliven the ch'i, and then calm the atmosphere. Then we smudged with sage to cleanse and purify. The final, and most potent part of the celebration was a Tracing of the Nine Stars, a traditional process in Feng Shui. My friend moved through the rooms, focusing intention and gratitude in the 9 areas of her home, associated with 9 aspects of her life: including health, abundance, travel and relationship, to name a few. She offered silent thoughts of gratitude, whispered prayers of thanks, and symbolically œtook herself with her, as she left her home for the last time that evening. Concluding with a fond farewell to the neighbors with whom she shared this condo community!

How would your new home feel, if you knew the owners before you cleared their energy within it's walls, and it was ready for your fresh start? Imagine it.
