When is the light rail line to DIA going to be finished?

When is the light rail line to DIA going to be done? I would love to be able to take it to the airport. That is a common question that I get, especially when showing buyers condos and lofts in and around Downtown. It looks like the line won't be coming in as soon as we all hope, I imagine most people want it done yesterday. But the good news is that six short years from now we could be riding the rail to the airport.

In a statement released by RTD yesterday, itappears 2016 will be the magic year that we will finally see this coveted light rail line opened. The $2.1 Billion light rail expansion project to Denver International Airport, Wheat Ridge-Arvada and south Westminster should begin later this summer and is expected to create up to 5,000 new jobs for the city. While the $2.1 billion price tag seems steep, it is actually a savings of $300 million below what was expected, money that should hopefully be applied to other lines around the city.

While it won't be any time soon that we will be hopping on the train to the airport, it is still good to know that eventually it will be here and should help to continue to transform our city. Keep in mind that neighborhoods and homes near light rail stations have seen significant appreciation oncelight railstopsare built. So when you are looking for the next hot neighborhood or solid investment property, homes close to these new lines should be worth looking intoand you could see a healthy return on your investment.
