Every Saturday through the fall a student and volunteer garden has set up a farmstand to sell their vegetables in the Cole neighborhood. The garden is run by Green Leaf Colorado, a community partner of Denver Venture Prep School. The goals of the group are to provide "fresh, healthy organic vegetables" at affordable prices in a sustainable urban environment. The garden was begun this summer in a vacant lot donated by the property owner and has blossomed into what the students call a "Mini-Eden". Vegetables at the Farmstand are sold through a "name-your-price" system.
We like to supplement our own garden with vegetables from the Farmstand. This past Saturday, we picked up some gorgeous purple string beans and a huge zucchini. The zucchini from the Farmstand was much larger than anything we could have bought from the grocery store and was delicious. Tomatoes, all kinds of peppers, watermelons, and much more are available. The sunflowers are free!
The Farmstand is located at 38th & Williams and is open Saturdays 9-11AM.
