It seems like West Highlands isn't the only neighborhood wherenewly proposed developments are threatening to push the current skyline. According to the Denver Post, WesternDevelopment Group is pushing to change zoning in Cherry Creek North which wouldallow them to build an eight story, 70,000 square foot office building on thecorner of Columbine and Second Avenue.
While Cherry Creek North is certainly denser and has larger, newer buildings than West Highlands, the concerns being raised by residents of bothare similar: increased density will result in serious traffic for areas alreadyfacing traffic difficulties. In addition, the overall appearance of theneighborhood will be forever altered which has residents up in arms as well.
As the city continues to become denser, I imagine more ofthese issues will continue to arise making these two cases so very importantfor the direction our city will take in the next 10 to 20 years. It is thereforecrucial for residents of each neighborhood to make their voices be heard andlet elected representatives know how we all want our city to look and feelmoving forward.
