With the snow last week, we are certainly starting to see more and more leaves on the ground. Some of my trees are completely bare and others haven't even turned colors yet so I imagine I'll be raking leaves for quite some time still. The problem always becomes though, where to put all these leaves. I hate to throw them in the dumpster where they will just end up in a landfill. Luckily there is a great program for Denver residents called LeafDrop.
This year, simply take your leaves to one of the many LeafDrop sites around town and the city will take your leaves and compost them. The compost will be available for purchase next spring making it about as environmentally friendly as you can get. The city just asks that you drop the leaves only at the designated times and that you don't put them in plastic bags, paper bags are ideal. And pumpkins can be composted as well. If your friendly backyard squirrels have had enough pumpkin for a while, throw them in with the leaves too, the pumpkins, not the squirrels.
