The Jefferson Park Farm + Flea is this Saturday

Urban Farmers Market Promotes Chicken Amnesty Program

The Jefferson Park Farm & Flea, a hybrid farmers market and flea market in Northwest Denver, will host its second market of the season this Saturday, June 11th from 9 am-2 pm. The market is also promoting a first of its kind "Chicken Amnesty Program" where all current chicken owners can get the paperwork rolling to make their chickens legal, happy birds!

Since 2011 Denver residents have legally been able to keep up to eight chickens in backyard farms. Many owners, however, do not know that city requires a permit for those birds.

For Live Urban agent Doug Yetman, registering backyard farm animals is an important way to ensure that the practice remains legal in Denver. œThe twenty-five dollar fee helps support animal control operations, helps support efforts to educate and encourage responsible chicken and goat ownership, plus it helps the city staff and leaders better understand the overwhelming support that exists for legal urban farm animal ownership.

The JP Farm & Flea is encouraging all chicken (and goat) ownersand prospective owners to stop by the JP Farm & Flea this Saturday from 9-2 to pick up your forms, learn more about raising chickens and goats and be registered to win great prizes AND take in over 55 of Denver's best vendors--food, housewares, art, ice-cream, Colorado-grown produce, free bike check-ups and some of Denver's best food trucks and mobile boutiques!

The ˜Farm & Flea' takes place in the emerging business district on 25th Avenue between Federal Boulevard and Eliot Street.

Stop by the Live Urban booth at this week's Farm + Flea for free chicken food and a chance to win a Chicken Starter Package!
