4 Questions To Ask Yourself When Choosing A Real Estate Agent

Buying a new home is a daunting task, which is why it is soimportant to find a great real estate agent to assist you throughthe process. Here are the four questions to ask yourself in orderto choose a great real estate agent!

  1. Do they have outstandingcommunication skills?

A great real estate agent will guide you through theprocess of buying a new home. Maybe it's your first timebuying and you don't really know what to expect, or maybethere are new circumstances that you need assistance with. Whilethey may not be available 24/7, they should be communicating withyou effectively so that you know what is going on. Nothing is morefrustrating than being left in the dark!

  1. Are theyinquisitive?

While an agent may have great intuition andexperience, this will only get them so far. A great agent is alsoinquisitive and wants to hear all about your wants andneeds.

What kind of neighborhood best suits you?

What kind of restaurants/shopping/activities do youenjoy?

Is this your first time purchasing a home?

An inquisitive agent shows interest in you and puts afocus on understanding exactly what you and your family are lookingfor. Answering the basic questions of how many bedrooms and bathsyou need is the bare minimum. In order to find the perfect housefor you, much more information is needed. If you are moving to anew area, or even out-of-state, this is especially true. The morequestions and information that is gathered, the more likely it isthat the agent will show you houses that you will LOVE!

  1. Do they have experience /experience in this particular area?

While there are many fantastic new agents who have aknack for what they do, experience is always a huge plus. Aquestion to consider is how much experience the agent has in thearea you are looking to buy. Maybe they have lived there for a longtime and know the area, or maybe they have sold many houses there.Either way, it is extremely helpful when your agent can guide youthrough the area and help you decide what neighborhood is best foryou.

  1. Are they emotionallyintelligent?

Emotional intelligence is œthe capacity to beaware of, control, and express one's emotions, and to handleinterpersonal relationships judiciously and empathetically. This characteristic is especially important in an agent. Moving isone of the most stressful things you can do, and sometimes thereare speed bumps in the road when trying to buy a new home. A greatreal estate agent is able to guide you through this time in yourlife and navigate your emotions to get the job done!

It's also important to understandthedifference between a real estate agent and a realtor. Yes,there is a difference! Both real estate agents and realtorshave professional licenses to buy, sell, and rent real estate. However, in order to be a realtor, one must join the NationalAssociation of Realtors. This means that realtors areheld to a higher standard than real estate agents.

Asking yourself these four questions will help you choose atalented and knowledgeable real estate agent. Buying a house is alot of work to do on your own, so don't be afraid to call aprofessional and see what they have to offer!

There are so many real estate agents out there, so how do you pick the right one?
