It's that time of year....my favorite holiday -- and yes, to me it is definitely a holiday -- BACK TO SCHOOL!

Don't get me wrong, I love having my kids around in the summers, but by August, when it's so hot that I feel like I'm melting the minute I go outside, we have been on vacation, and camping, Summer camps and activities are winding down, and the kids are tired of me, of each other, of every wii game that they own and even tired of going to the pool...we are ready to go back to school!
As a Realtor, I am often asked about schools and school districts. With 4 kids between the ages of 2 and 12, I know a lot about quite a few schools in the Denver Metro area. But with new charter and even public schools opening all of the time, it's impossible for anyone to know everything about all of them, which is why I often direct people to www.greatschools.org -- it is a great website full of information about demographics, curriculum, extra-curricular activities, etc.
There is also a feedback section where parents can write and read reviews about individual schools. I do think that it is important to read those reviews with an open mind, and to remember that most reviews are written by people who either absolutely love or absolutely hate a product or service, and the same applies to schools. But it is nice to hear from current or former parents about their experiences with a school if you are considering sending your kiddos there.
Another place to go for information is the Denver Public Schools website and the Jefferson County Schools website.
They each provide a lot of information, and also link to each school's individual websites as well. One thing that people relocating to Colorado don't always realize is that Colorado is a choice schools state -- you don't have to go to your "neighborhood" school if it isn't a good fit for your child, since it is possible to enroll at any school as long as there is space for your student.
There are also so many magnet, charter and private schools that offer good alternatives as well.If you have questions about how to find the right Denver Metro area school for your child, let me know, I am always happy to help!
